Book Club Discussion Questions for

A Dash of Death

By Michelle Hillen Klump

·      At its heart, A Dash of Death is about a woman who has a crisis of confidence and is struggling to trust herself. Have you ever felt like that? How did you learn to trust your instincts again?

·      The story is also about friendship. Were there times that Samantha relied too much on her friends? Conversely, were there times you thought she should have listened to them more?

·      Even though Samantha and Greg broke up before the book started, she struggled to extricate him completely from her life. Why do you think she had such trouble cutting the cord on their relationship? Have you ever stayed friends with an ex? What can make that kind of relationship work? And how do you know when to call it quits?

·      The book touches on issues of gentrification and historic preservation. Are there buildings or sites in your own town that you wish had been preserved? Why do you think it is important to preserve certain buildings? Are there situations where you think it makes sense to tear historic buildings down?

·      There is a wide cast of supporting characters in the Cocktails & Catering Mystery series. Which one is your favorite, and why?

·      What surprised you the most in the book? Did a character behave unexpectedly, or did a scene take an unusual turn?

·      Samantha is a former newspaper reporter. How do you think her reporting background helped her with her investigation?

·      Samantha loves to experiment with different flavors in her cocktails. What is the most unusual flavor combination you have tried? What is your favorite cocktail? If you don’t like cocktails, what is your favorite mocktail?

·      At the end of the novel, Samantha takes a big risk with a new career. Have you ever taken a big leap of faith? What scared you about it? Was it worth it in the end?
